LEGO February 2024 buyers’ guide – staff picks and recommendations

With only a handful of new LEGO sets launching on February 1, 2024, here are our recommendations and essential staff picks for this month.

Following a huge wave of LEGO models dropping last month, February’s offerings have been scaled back somewhat. That’s not to say there aren’t a few gems to be picked up from today though and in fact a few of the new builds will be essential purchases for some.

For starters there’s 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Orinthopter, based on the 2021 movie and offering up a unique building experience complete with exclusive minifigures. You can find out much more about the LEGO Icons set in our full in-depth review right here.

Fans of LEGO BrickHeadz will certainly have something to be happy about too, with four new Marvel, Disney and Sonic the Hedgehog collectible figures now available for purchase. They include 40670 Iron Spider-Man, 40671 Potted Groot, 40674 Stitch and 40672 Sonic the Hedgehog: Knuckles & Shadow to add to your collection.

In addition to 21346 Family Tree arriving today, LEGO Insiders can also get early access to yet another LEGO Ideas model. 21347 Red London Telephone Box is a 1,460-piece build that includes options for two different interiors and even functions as a handy smartphone stand.

If you’re still mulling over all of the potential new LEGO sets to purchase in February, the Brick Fanatics team have their own personal recommendations for which of this month’s models are well-worth buying.  Check out our choices below and let us know if you agree in the comments.

Matt – 21346 Family Tree

The one thing you can say for sure about the LEGO Ideas theme is that it definitely delivers a different set each and every time. That’s certainly true for 21346 Family Tree, based on a winning concept from fan designer Ivan Guerrero. The 1,040-piece model takes that submission and builds on it, adding in a hidden storage compartment and 16 new hanging holder elements.

The thinking behind 21346 Family Tree is that the set will grow and evolve over time as you add photos, notes and ticket stubs to it. There are also plenty of details to appreciate when constructing the LEGO Ideas model, such as a toy plane, a kite and two birds in the upper branches, four bird houses around the black trunk, and multiple accessories for customising the build according to the seasons.

The creation and development that’s gone into 21346 Family Tree clearly comes from the LEGO Ideas team and Ivan’s own personal family connections and there’s no doubt you’ll be adding plenty of your own memories to the set over the coming years.

Rachael – 10331 Kingfisher Bird

The LEGO Fauna Collection might only be a fledgling subtheme but it’s certainly hit the ground running with 10331 Kingfisher Bird. The impressive detail throughout the build perfectly captures the bird in a dramatic pose, easily looking like a reflection of its living counterpart from a distance. The vibrant shades of blue are eye-catching enough as is, but when paired with a muted orange and the translucent blue and white base, it makes for a truly striking build.

Much like the Botanical Collection before it, the Fauna Collection is resulting in models that will surely appeal to seasoned LEGO builders and those looking for their very first set – especially if they’re bird watchers. With a price under £50, it’s an easy day one purchased for me, and one that I’m excited to make.

Jack – 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter

While I’m not as acquainted with the books that inspired it, I found myself infatuated with the story, world and characters of the first Dune movie and am excited for the sequel. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected a LEGO Dune set to release, though the Ornithopter is by far the most obvious choice for a model based on the franchise.

Given that the minifigure selection in 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter covers most of the main cast (and at an amazing quality too) another LEGO Dune set anytime soon seems unlikely, although a sandworm would be my next pick. As a new Dune enthusiast, I’m looking forward to picking up 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter as soon as I can and won’t be embarrassed to swoosh it around the room, flapping the blades as I go.
