Fortnite’s LEGO Islands could bring back LEGO Rock Band

The latest update to Fortnite could technically bring back LEGO Rock Band, along with the game’s original development studio.

Fortnite’s new LEGO Islands update has just launched in-game, debuting a pair of playable islands alongside from the main LEGO Fortnite mode. These islands are confirmed to be the first of many LEGO updates coming to Fortnite in 2024 and they may not be the only Fortnite LEGO Islands modes for long. Note that these are modes separate from the main LEGO Fortnite mode, not within it.

Fortnite features a mode named Creative where players can create and upload an island with gameplay, graphics and more unique to their experience. It’s similar to the new LEGO Islands in-game but without LEGO. As iFireMonkey on Twitter has spotted, emotes work inside LEGO Islands, including Jam Tracks.

Jam Tracks were introduced alongside Fortnite Festival at the start of the current season, allowing players to play music they earned or purchased while their character dances. Up to three other players can join in but previously they could only be used in the Battle Royale and Fortnite Festival modes.

The fact that they can be used within LEGO Islands is an interesting development, especially as Fortnite Festival and by extension Jam Tracks were developed in partnership with Harmonix thanks to their experience with Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Provided that LEGO Islands can be customised in the future similar to Fortnite Creative islands, this could be a chance for LEGO Rock Band to return.

It wouldn’t be quite the same or as functional as the original LEGO Rock Band game, though Jam Tracks allow you to modify the music and tempo mid-song. Constructing a LEGO stage with characters to watch you and three friends rock out is likely the closest we’re going to get to LEGO Rock Band nearly 15 years after its release, especially with Harmonix’s involvement.

Two LEGO Islands are available to play within Fortnite now. Fishing was recently added to the main LEGO Fortnite mode too.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
