LEGO Fortnite updates could open the door for more LEGO IPs

More original LEGO IPs could potentially be added to LEGO Fortnite in the future, if the game’s latest update is anything to go by.

The LEGO Group and Epic Games today revealed the next evolution of LEGO Fortnite, with plenty of exciting announcements coming out of the 2024 Game Developers’ Conference (GDC). As well as three new LEGO Islands, budding game designers can now create their own content and be eligible for potential payouts.

LEGO Prop Hunt, LEGO Battle Arena and LEGO Cat Island Adventure are all available now, offering up very different new interactive experiences. Of those, LEGO Battle Arena is of particular interest, as it features LEGO NINJAGO’s Lloyd and the Masters of Spinjitzu. Players get to enrol in special training at the LEGO NINJAGO Dojo and compete against other trainees while honing their skills.

LEGO Battle Arena follows the February launch of LEGO Raft Survival and LEGO Obby Fun, all of which feature minifigures and content inspired by existing LEGO IPs. With Pirates, NINJAGO, City, DREAMZzz and Friends being established LEGO themes, there would certainly seem to be the potential for even more such content that could be added to LEGO Fortnite in the future.

The LEGO Group says its Fortnite journey is ‘just beginning’, suggesting more game modes, Islands and themes could possibly be included on the company’s road map throughout 2024 and beyond. In terms of pure speculation then, there’s no reason why the likes of Castle, Western, Space, Monkie Kid and even more original LEGO IPs couldn’t be included in an upcoming LEGO Fortnite update.

Taking that thinking to its logical conclusion, licensed properties that have already appeared in the main Fortnite game that are also LEGO themes could potentially be added too. Star Wars, Marvel, DC and Indiana Jones content has been included in Fortnite in recent years, suggesting that with the right licensing deals, anything is possible. Indeed, many Marvel and Star Wars LEGO Styles have already been added to LEGO Fortnite, so there’s always hope that more might be an option.

Of course, this is all just speculation and wishful thinking, but the sky really does seem to be the limit when it comes to LEGO Fortnite and it does feel as if TLG and Epic Games have only begun to scratch the surface of what could be on the way at some point.
