LEGO is giving away free copies of 76421 Dobby the House-Elf

The LEGO Group is giving away free copies of 76421 Dobby the House-Elf to celebrate the Harry Potter character’s birthday.

The flagship LEGO Store at Leicester Square in London is taking payment for the summer 2023 set in socks for today only, as June 28 marks Dobby’s birthday in-universe. The 403-piece set usually retails for £24.99 in the UK, but the first 100 customers to show a sock (the one on your foot will probably do) on entrance to the store will walk away with a free copy.

With only 100 sets up for grabs, this promo isn’t likely to last long – if there are even any copies left by the time you read this – but if you’re in the vicinity of Leicester Square, it’s probably worth popping by just in case. The LEGO Group is no stranger to free gifts, but most of its promos typically require some kind of minimum spend. This sounds like it’s just a completely free LEGO set, no questions asked.

It’s even more surprising given 76421 Dobby the House-Elf only landed on shelves on June 1, but it is the smallest of the new range of LEGO Harry Potter sets – and obviously gets customers through the door, where they’ll then spend more money on LEGO they might not have bought otherwise. In an ideal world for the LEGO Group, anyway.

Whether we see more off-kilter promos like this one will likely depend heavily on how successful this one is, but fingers crossed any future freebies are similarly shrewd: showing your socks for a free LEGO Dobby is enough to put a wry smile on the face of any burgeoning witch or wizard.
