LEGO Game Boy Brick Zone Hub wall-mount display frame review

If you’re looking for a unique way to display your copy of 72046 Game Boy, Brick Zone Hub has the ideal solution for the LEGO Super Mario set.

As anyone with a sizeable LEGO collection will know, keeping your sets clean and dust-free is always going to be an ongoing battle. Fortunately, there are all sorts of unofficial display cases and storage solutions already on the market, including a wide range of offerings from Brick Zone Hub, a company that specialises in custom options for showing off your completed models in the best possible way.

A great example of those products is this one-piece wall-mount display frame designed to house 72046 Game Boy, which is priced at £49.90 and measures 28cm wide, 6cm deep and 23cm high. The fully-assembled frame can either be displayed freestanding or placed on a wall for all to see thanks to a handy flip-out photo stand and four no-trace hooks that attach to the back.

Inside the product’s well-protected packaging, you’ll find everything you need for the wall-mount display frame, although it’s worth noting there were no instructions included with the one we received.

However, that’s not really an issue, as the display already comes pretty much fully assembled and features a solid black wood frame with rear stand and a 3mm clear acrylic front panel, plus it uses a simple, tool-free connector system to complete the set-up.

To get started, you’ll need to remove the shrink wrapping from the frame, attach your 72046 Game Boy to the custom-designed backing board using the display’s included 3M stickered elements, place the LEGO Super Mario set inside and then reattach the back panel, to keep that pesky dust out for good.

There’s room on the backing board to place the brick-built Game Boy on the left-hand side, while the LEGO Nintendo model’s two Game Pak cartridges can be placed on the right-hand side. Unfortunately, there’s no space for the set’s two spare lenticular screens or its own display stands though, so you’ll need to store those additional items elsewhere.

Both the front of the display frame and the backing board are protected by thin layers of film, which can be easily removed towards the end of the assembly process to avoid any unsightly fingerprints while putting everything together. One slight grumble we have is that once the 3M LEGO pieces are stuck to the backing board, they’re attached on there for good, so you’ll need to be careful when placing your 72046 Game Boy in position.

It’s also worth mentioning that the printed monochrome 72046 Game Boy schematic on the backing board we were sent does look completely different to the one shown on Brick Zone Hub’s online listing, but it’s still a great to touch to finish off the display frame.

The option to display the model free-standing or on a wall gives you more flexibility as to how you might want your build to be seen and taking the brick-built Nintendo console in and out of the frame for removal is a quick and easy process.

The wall-mount frame may cost nearly as much as the LEGO set itself, but that shouldn’t prove too much of a barrier for entry for those looking for a premium way to show off their completed gaming model. Taking into account its style and functionality, Brick Zone Hub’s offering is a genuinely impressive way for collectors to display 72046 Game Boy and it’s one that will ensure your LEGO Super Mario set remains dust-free and safely-contained for years to come.

You can find this and many more display frames and cases for current and older LEGO sets at Brick Zone Hub.
