LEGO Halloween tombstones pay tribute to more retired themes

LEGOLAND New York is continuing its tradition of tribute tombstones this Halloween, offering a place for more retired themes to rest.

Last year, LEGOLAND New York's model-building team including designer Joey Klusnick created a series of tombstones for their annual Halloween event featuring a mix of puns, a meme and tributes to retired themes. For the latter, the brick-built graveyard had spots for BIONICLE and Galidor.

This year, the selection has been expanded as spotted by CaptainCorbal on Reddit. Familiar tombstones return alongside new builds referencing techniques. The retired themes that have been added to the graveyard for 2024 include Elves and VIDIYO, complete with appropriate puns.

Not only do those tombstones use an array of interesting techniques including building on the side to capture the wool puffs of D.J. L.L.A.M.A, but the Elves tombstone offers a peek at what a LEGO mini-doll skull might look like, including one that somehow has ears.

Hopefully, this tradition will continue in the years to come, paying homage to other retired themes from the past and the future. Those wanting to see these builds in person likely don't have long to take a trip to the New York theme park, as the Halloween event ends on the last day of October before the team prepares for a Christmas event starting in mid-November.
