LEGO Harry Potter Sorting Hat revealed early

An early retailer listing has offered us our first look at LEGO Harry Potter 76429 The Sorting Hat – including the return of a long-dormant element.

Thanks to German retailer ProShop, we’ve got our first look at LEGO Harry Potter 76429 The Sorting Hat. Made up of 561 pieces and listed at €79 on ProShop, the upcoming LEGO Harry Potter set is an impressively accurate replica of the on-screen sorting hat, capturing the grumpy face and saggy shape of the gruff-spoken hat well.

What’s more, the reverse of the box and one of the lifestyle images reveal that the sound brick will be making a return to the LEGO system, for the first time in roughly 13 years. The description of the set confirms that it will be able to play a whopping 31 different sound combinations, presumably in the Sorting Hat’s voice and revealing what house you would be in. Seeing as there are only four Hogwarts houses in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, 76429 The Sorting Hat’s speech must include some other more complex phrases too.

76429 The Sorting Hat comes with a minifigure of Harry Potter himself, wearing a minifigure-scale version of the hat too. It sits on a stand decorated with each of the crests of the Hogwarts houses, lending it well to display. It doesn’t quite appear to be built to scale with a human head, judging from the image of a model attempting to put it on, but it does appear to be sturdy enough to sit without a stand, judging from some of the other lifestyle images.

If you click through to order the set on ProShop, the retailer states that the set will be available from March 1, 2024, so there’s likely not long to wait until we get an official reveal from the LEGO Group, which will confirm the international prices. Here’s a reminder of what’s to come for LEGO Harry Potter in March.
