After engineer Eiffel finished construction of the Eiffel Tower, he reserved this highest platform of the structure for himself, measuring 100 square metres in floor space and situated just below the spire at the very top, some 300m high above ground.

The apartment only relatively recently opened to the public, and today contains waxworks of Eiffel, his daughter and Thomas Edison, who visited Eiffel in 1889 ‘and gifted him one of the first sound-recording devices ever made’. While kitted out with most living amenities, there was no bedroom in the apartment.
