Comparing LEGO Ideas 21341 Hocus Pocus to the original project

LEGO Ideas 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage is nearly completely identical to the original fan-designed project.

21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage is releasing on July 1 for VIP members and for all on July 4 for £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99. This is based on the project submitted by Amber Veyt to the platform on February 8, 2021.

The model was confirmed as a future set in the third 2021 review and there have been some notable changes to the build during development, though largely it has remained the same.

A studded interior

While the interiors of the two builds are mostly the same, the floor in the official set isn’t smooth and tiled but studded instead. Dropping these pieces might be one of the reasons for there being over 600 fewer elements in the final model.

An exact exterior

While the interior has one small difference, the exterior looks almost identical between the original project and the final design. From the slanted tiles towards the top of the cottage to the ground surrounding the building, it seems that Amber’s initial idea was nearly perfect already, save for a few colour swaps.

The gate instead of the tree

Instead of a tree and Billy’s grave in Amber’s submission, the LEGO Ideas designers have opted for the gate instead, but keeping a tree and the tombstone, as well as adding two more tombstones.

Fewer minifigures

While the original project proposed 11 minifigures and Thackery as a cat, only the three sisters, Max Dani, Allison and Thackery as a cat are included in 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage. Emily, Thackery as a human, Billy, Ernie and Jay have been left out of the official release. It’s not impossible for LEGO Ideas sets to have 11 or more minifigures, but it’s not common either with only two instances so far. The set does come with three new minifigure elements at least.

Similar and new features

The function selection in 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage isn’t the same as Amber’s initial submission. While the cottage still opens, it’s only one wall and a removable section instead of completely opening. It’s not clear whether the water wheel spins and a light brick has been integrated to help the fire glow under the cauldron too.
