LEGO Ideas 21346 Family Tree may be the theme’s most accurate set yet

LEGO Ideas 21346 Family Tree may just be the most accurate set in the theme to date, closely recreating the vast majority of the project’s details.

For various reasons, parts of LEGO Ideas projects can be changed before they are developed into official sets and usually, the details that do stick around are some of the most appreciated. However, it’s going to be hard to appreciate one of these details specifically in 21346 Family Tree as Ivan Guerrero’s project-turned-set is notably close to the original contest-winning submission.

Aside from one major detail that may have been changed for good reason, here’s everything that has stayed the same between the project and the official design of 21346 Family Tree ahead of its launch on February 1, 2024, for £79.99 / $79.99 / €89.99.

The birdhouses (and a bonus abode)

The two birdhouses in blue and red from the original project are present in the final set design. Their roofs have changed shape and the method to attach them to the tree has been updated too but otherwise, they’re identical. There’s also a third yellow birdhouse that doesn’t appear to be present in the initial submission.

The colour scheme

While some enthusiasts online have been perplexed by the black trunk, the red and black colour scheme as well as the design of the base matches the original project and harkens back to older LEGO tree models too. The base’s colours have changed somewhat, but not enough to completely differentiate the two builds.

The printed tile

Both the original submission and 21346 Family Tree include a printed tile on the front of the base. Some changes have been made to this tile, including ‘tree’ being removed, the flowers being switched for heart-shaped branches, as well as updates to the colour and shape of the tile.

Accessories

Various accessories have transferred over from the original project to the final design, but some of the most notable inclusions are the printed book and the ladder. The ladder’s design hasn’t changed at all, but the book’s cover now depicts a tree rather than a specific title. The lack of any minifigures in the official set to use these accessories is a bit confusing, but at least it won’t be hard to add your own.
