LEGO Ideas 21353 The Botanical Garden isn’t a modular
The latest LEGO Ideas set has been officially revealed as 21353 The Botanical Garden eschews the proposed modular building design entirely.
LEGO Ideas 21353 The Botanical Garden has been unveiled and will launch on November 1 for LEGO Insiders, or November 4 for everyone for £289.99 / $329.99 / €329.99. While you look over its official reveal, you should be able to spot one major difference between the original project and the final set design.
The modular street and Technic pin connections have been removed entirely, eschewing the proposed modular building compatibility to more of a standalone botanical garden. It’s not necessarily bad news though, as discussed in our latest YouTube video focusing on the newest LEGO Ideas model.
You wouldn’t find a proper botanical garden jammed between a pair of buildings in a street in the real world, partially explaining why the designers chose to forego the modular design that was pitched. Spreading the build out over two baseplates instead of one and a half also allows the nature-filled structure room to breathe.
The decision to depict 21353 The Botanical Garden as a standalone set rather than fitting it within the rules of the modular buildings similar to 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion is worth exploring and you can find out more about how this relates to problems within LEGO modular alikes in our new video.
