LEGO Ideas ’80s challenge crowd vote is being relaunched

The LEGO Ideas challenge looking for two sets based on ’80s IP has had to relaunch its crowd vote after the team inadvertently broke a rule.

Of the LEGO Ideas projects picked for the ’80s IP challenge’s first crowd vote, Delusion Brick had two projects selected, breaking a rule of the challenge that aimed to step multiple projects from the same user being picked.

Thankfully, the team realised the error and relaunched the crowd vote completely. The new crowd vote will take place from tomorrow until May 7 and The Karate Kid submission from Delusion Brick has been swapped out for Honey, I Shrunk the Kids by ModularManiac.

There will still be a second crowd vote in the future for the challenge for a second set, featuring a different selection of projects from five users.

For now, the current crowd vote selection for the challenge includes E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies, Beetlejuice, Gremlins and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. All user’s votes have been rescinded and you can start from scratch tomorrow.

The team stresses in the update on the LEGO Ideas blog that this is in no way a reflection on the quality of any of the submissions and is solely due to an unfortunate mistake from them.

The creators who submitted these entries have done nothing wrong and shouldn’t worry about the situation. Delusion Brick still has a chance at getting a LEGO Ideas set in the future, but that chance is now equal to the other users in the selection, including ModularManiac who joins the group thanks to this change.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
