LEGO Ideas could be hinting at a full Dungeons & Dragons theme

The wording on the webpage for the new LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons challenge may be hinting at an entire theme revolving around the tabletop roleplaying game.

Announced not long ago, the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons challenge will lead to a set inspired by a fan design with every entry in the voting phase eligible to win, regardless of which one has the most votes. However, the wording on the challenge page could be hinting at the possibility of an entire LEGO Dungeons & Dragons theme.

The details for the challenge read: “Unlike typical LEGO product idea submissions, the fan vote phase for this promotion, which runs from November 28, 2022, to December 12th, 2022, is intended to help the judges gauge fan interest in specific designs, and validate fan excitement for the theme.”

It’s possible that ‘the theme’ is referring to the concepts of the LEGO Ideas entries, though the previous portion of this sentence already mentions gauging interest in ‘specific designs’. That could mean that the challenge is hinting at plans for a LEGO Dungeons & Dragons theme, particularly since that’s the exact term the LEGO Group uses for product lines from Avatar to Star Wars

The LEGO Group’s partnership with Hasbro, which owns Dungeons & Dragons through Wizards of the Coast, has already resulted in 10302 Optimus Prime before this new challenge. Single Ideas sets acting as a springboard to future products is nothing new, either: we’ve seen similar in Minecraft, for one, and 10292 The Friends Apartments, which followed 21319 Central Perk.

We’ve asked for clarification through the LEGO Ambassador Network, but have so far received no official input from the LEGO Group. That means a full Dungeons & Dragons theme is not confirmed at this stage, but we do know that there will be at least one full set thanks to the LEGO Ideas challenge.
