LEGO Ideas Formula 1 project storms through qualifying
The latest LEGO Ideas project to gain 10,000 supporters commemorates one of the most successful F1 cars to date.
2022 saw defending world champion Max Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez debut the Red Bull Racing RB18 at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The car gave Verstappen his second consecutive Drivers’ Championship driving the RB18 and Red Bull its fifth Constructors’ Championship, earning it a reputation as one of the most dominant F1 cars ever built.
Now, the sleek RB18 has been replicated with LEGO elements in a LEGO Ideas project. Red Bull Racing F1 Team RB18 1:12 Scale has gained 10,000 supporters, putting it in with a chance of becoming a real-life LEGO Ideas set. Built to a 1:12 scale, the design captures the unique new shape of the car that debuted in 2022, thanks to fresh motor-sport regulations.
New features like venturi tunnels, new front and rear wing shape, wheel covers, and wheel fenders are artfully captured, as well as a buildable V6 engine, all wrapped up in Red Bull’s distinctive colours of navy blue, red, and yellow.
Whether Red Bull Racing F1 Team RB18 1:12 Scale will go on to the same level of success in the world of LEGO as its real-life counterpart did is now in the hands of the LEGO Ideas review team. This wouldn’t be the first time an F1 car has become a LEGO set, with LEGO Technic 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car already paving the way. What’s more, a Red Bull fan has already recoloured the Technic set in RBR’s livery.
While we wait to see which LEGO Ideas project will come out on top, here’s a reminder of the RB18’s competition as it stands.
