LEGO Ideas debuts parking lot to give some projects more time and chance

The LEGO Ideas team have announced a parking lot, giving a limited selection of projects more time and chance to be considered for a set.

The latest LEGO Ideas blog isn’t revealing a new car park for the team’s office but a new concept that will impact future review rounds, expanding on an existing concept in a major way.

Previously, LEGO Ideas review rounds may have included news that one specific project needed more time to be considered for a set, occasionally leading to an additional official model. The latest example of this is the LEGO Luxo Jr. submission, which needed a few more months of consideration than the rest of the third 2023 review projects.

Now, the parking lot will give the LEGO Ideas team room to give multiple projects the same treatment for longer. The parking lot should be useful when one particular aspect, such as timing, means that a project isn’t approved in favour of a submission that would time with its likely release better.

Such projects that are ideal for LEGO Ideas but have bad timing can simply stay in the parking lot and remove the need for their fan designers to reach 10,000 supporters all over again.

A limited number of projects can be kept in the parking lot (though no specific number has been provided) for a maximum of three review rounds, and just because a submission enters the parking lot, it does not mean they will get a LEGO Ideas set. It simply gives the team more time to consider additional projects.

The blog post makes it clear that this will not impact the rest of the review round process aside from giving more submissions a chance at official models. It’s business as usual otherwise on the platform. Click here to see what’s currently in production for LEGO Ideas.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
