The highly-anticipated LEGO Ideas 40912 Sea Serpent gift-with-purchase sold out in a matter of hours in Australia, so how long until it disappears in other regions?
Beyond the BrickLink Designer Program, LEGO Castle fans don’t have much to enjoy on shelves right now. So when something like 40912 Sea Serpent – a remake of 1992’s Black Knights set 6057 Sea Serpent – comes along, it’s the sort of thing that’s inevitably going to stir up the masses and drive traffic to LEGO.com, not least because it’s a timed gift-with-purchase.
What the LEGO Group perhaps didn’t anticipate is just how much demand there would be for this one down under, because by all accounts 40912 Sea Serpent disappeared from LEGO.com roughly 10 hours after first setting sail in Australia and New Zealand. To stress: that’s 10 hours into what was supposed to be a six-day window of availability.

This certainly isn’t the first time the LEGO Group hasn’t allocated enough GWP stock to the southern hemisphere relative to demand, but the obvious question is: where will it sell out next? The chances of 40912 Sea Serpent making it all the way through LEGO Insiders Days, which runs until July 12, seem almost infinitesimal at this point.
At the time of writing it’s at least still available in the UK, US and Europe, where it’s free with all orders above £160 / $180 / €180 respectively. That includes the LEGO sets discounted for Insiders Days and the themes that currently qualify for double points, among which are Marvel, Harry Potter, Speed Champions, Jurassic World, Disney, Sonic the Hedgehog, Wicked and Education.

If you do end up missing out on 40912 Sea Serpent, the majority of the build can be assembled using your own parts collection or via Pick a Brick and BrickLink. The only exclusive elements are two new Black Knights shields and the fabric sail. You can probably live without the shields, but you may have to create your own sail or design a brick-built alternative – it won’t look quite right without it.
For the time being, 40912 Sea Serpent is still available in most regions, and will remain so until July 12 at the latest, or while stocks last. Head through to LEGO.com to secure your copy… as long as you’re not in Australia or New Zealand.
