LEGO Ideas Telephone Box is technically three phones in one

The upcoming LEGO Ideas set brings the iconic London Telephone Box to life – but there’s more than one type of phone playing a role in the set.

Based on the fan design from John Cramp, the newly-revealed 21347 Red London Telephone Box is inspired by the familiar red phone stations that can be found all over London and across the UK. Considering the earliest documented red telephone box dates back to 1924, there have been plenty of variations over the last century as technology advances and the style of the phone boxes evolved.

The LEGO Ideas designers have captured how the box has changed throughout the decades by providing two alternate builds in 21347 Red London Telephone Box, one featuring a classic model of phone inside from decades before and another featuring a more modern design. Of course, both types of phone are similarly outdated in 2024 – but that has been catered to as well, with the option of being able to use the set itself as a stand for your smartphone.

With the two alternate builds and the real-life functionality as a smartphone stand, 21347 Red London Telephone Box brings together three different eras of communication, from a rotary dial phone to a ’90s-style payphone to the smartphones that have now replaced the phone boxes in the 21st Century.

Whichever build you pick in the interior, you can also pair it with slightly different references to past LEGO sets, with the older phone referring to more old-school-themed builds like 21327 Typewriter and 10317 Jazz Club, while the updated payphone refers to more modern LEGO properties, like LEGO Ideas itself and LEGOLAND.

LEGO Ideas 21347 Red London Telephone Box set will be available for LEGO Insiders from February 1, 2024 both online and in official LEGO stores and for everyone else from February 4, retailing at £99.99 / €114.99 $114.99.
