LEGO Ideas 21343 Viking Village has a surprising NINJAGO connection

The upcoming LEGO Ideas 21343 Viking Village includes a surprising connection to yet another LEGO theme: NINJAGO.

The 51st LEGO Ideas set was officially announced this week, with 21343 Viking Village due to launch on October 1, 2023 for £124.99 / $129.99 / €139.99. Based on a concept by fan designer BrickHammer, the 2,103-piece model includes three Norse-inspired sections packed with detail, as well as four unique minifigures with accessories.

Despite some obvious differences between the original submission and the final LEGO Ideas set, 21343 Viking Village still looks as if it’ll offer an impressive display piece, one that includes plenty of subtle (and not-so-subtle) references for fans to spot. For instance, there’s a uniquely-printed version of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, a small cave to mine for materials, newly-recoloured fern elements in white and much more.

As well as new elements and some impressive printed pieces (such as the Vikings’ shields), 21343 Viking Village also has surprising connection to another LEGO theme. Located at the front and rear of the chieftain’s longhouse are several golden items that might be familiar to fans of NINJAGO.

The decorative elements are in fact cleverly reused minifigure armour shoulder pieces with tiered fins that were first introduced in 2022 NINJAGO Crystalized sets. The items have been included in a total of eight models to date, such as 71768 Jay’s Golden Motorbike, 71769 Cole’s Dragon Cruiser and 71773 Kai’s Golden Dragon Raider.

We suspect 21343 Viking Village will have plenty more secrets to reveal when the LEGO Ideas set finally arrives on October 1, 2023, priced at £124.99 / $129.99 / €139.99.
