LEGO Insiders 40703 Micro NINJAGO City review

LEGO Insiders 40703 Micro NINJAGO City is a neat little recreation of a recent classic LEGO NINJAGO Movie set, but is a little expensive as a reward to redeem.

Currently redeemable at the LEGO Insiders Rewards Centre, 40703 Micro NINJAGO City is a detailed microscale recreation of 2017’s iconic 70620 NINJAGO City, and across a seven-bag build it manages to capture a lot of recognisable features from that LEGO NINJAGO Movie behemoth of a set.

That being said, redeeming the mini version at the LEGO Insiders Rewards Centre will cost you 2,700 Insiders points, which would be awarded via LEGO.com and LEGO Stores on purchases totalling around £338. That’s a hefty spend to have earned enough for any freebie, and bizarrely comes in at higher than the original cost of the much bigger (and better) original set this is based on – 70620 NINJAGO City retailed for £259.99 back in 2017.

Alternatively, 2,700 points would earn you about £16.50 in straight up money-off discounts on LEGO.com and LEGO store purchases. So there are two ways of you valuing 40703 Micro NINJAGO City – either for the £338 it took to get to this point, or for the £16.50 money off you could otherwise redeem instead of getting this reward.

Having built the set, we can say that it is fun to put together and way more involved and detailed than otherwise expected, and it’ll certainly remind you of the larger set it is based on at a number of points as you build it. However, the finished model isn’t as impressive or interesting sat on display and feels perhaps too small to really be the sort of mini-collection you’d want to spend so much to put together (there are mini-models of the other sections of NINJAGO City teased on the back of the box).

40703 Micro NINJAGO City is currently available at LEGO.com’s Insiders Rewards Centre as a 2,700-point reward, while stocks last.
