LEGO Jurassic World 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull review

2024’s LEGO Jurassic World subtheme continues in 2025 with 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull, which digs up yet another brick-built beast from the past.

While waiting for Jurassic World Rebirth to hit cinema screens on July 2, 2025, the LEGO Group’s designers have clearly been busy looking at ways of expanding the company’s long-running line-up of dino-related sets.

That was certainly the case with the arrival of last year’s 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull, a model that added an interesting mix of DNA into the LEGO Jurassic World range, effectively creating its own subtheme. That approach gains real traction with 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull, the next fossilised addition to what could be a regular annual series of prehistoric builds.

Packed with dino details

Anyone who doubted that the LEGO Jurassic World design team could capture lightning in a bottle twice, consider yourself chided. Not only does 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull expand on everything that made 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull such a success, but it also perfectly complements the previous model as an impressive display piece.

Coming in at 468 pieces, 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull requires almost every single one of those elements to recreate each distinctive curve and angle of the dinosaur’s instantly-recognisable cranium.

From the Triceratops’ pair of impressive brow horns and distinctive frill to the creature’s nasal horn cone and beak-like rostral, every part of the LEGO Jurassic World set pushes what’s possible with a decent selection of tan and dark tan pieces. The skull’s mouth can also be smoothly opened or closed, providing a small measure of display flexibility.

Interestingly, at the rear of the Triceratops skull is one half of a seemingly-random 2×2 with big ball joint piece, which almost seems intended to allow the model to be attached to a scaled version of the rest of the three-horned beast’s brick-built skeleton. However, even with recent rumours regarding 76968 T. rex Skeleton, who are we to speculate what that particular piece might ultimately be there for…

Finest of fossilised frills

Particular praise must be heaped on the construction of 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull’s frill, which (although not quite as large as the actual dinosaur’s) combines flat tan plates onto a sturdy framework, with everything slotting together perfectly and zero wobble or movement to worry about.

In fact, the Triceratops skull can be easily removed from its angled display stand and admired up close, proving to be extremely durable and not at all as fragile as it may appear from promotional images. The stand itself also has its own story to tell, with a small rocky base and sparse vegetation, as well as a hidden printed amber piece with an encased mosquito lurking around the back.

Instead of the fossilised footprint included with 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull instead gains an angled, brick-built archaeological dig site plate, complete with tiny Triceratops skeleton, plus magnifying glass and spade excavating tools. The inclusion of a stickered information plaque is the only area that slightly spoils the overall aesthetic, but that’s a minor grumble in what is otherwise a roar-some display piece.

The ultimate Jurassic Park fan

Rounding out 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull is the surprising addition of a unique minifigure, something that was absent from 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull. The LEGO Jurassic World set comes with what appears to be a fan of the original theme park, who sports a double-sided, black Jurassic Park torso and short blue legs.

All three facets of 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull come together to complete what proves to be yet another essential LEGO Jurassic World purchase. When sat next to 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull, there’s plenty to admire all round and we can’t wait to see which potential prehistoric beasts the LEGO Jurassic World theme may release next.

For fans of the Universal Pictures movie series and budding palaeontologists alike, 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull represents the next evolution of the LEGO Jurassic World subtheme, one that fully deserves a place in any Cretaceous construction collection.
