LEGO Lord of the Rings fans raise you your junk Falcon with junk Barad-dûr
Junk LEGO Millennium Falcons have popped up time and again, but now a LEGO The Lord of the Rings fan is having their turn with it.
For those not wanting to shell out hundreds of pounds on sprawling sets like LEGO Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon and LEGO Icons 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr, a little patience can get you those sets for much less – with a colourful twist. Junking LEGO sets is when you use online instructions to build a set out of different coloured parts, adapting bulk-bought bricks or spare parts from other sets to suit a different build.
The result is what you can see below from DarkUrizen on reddit: a ‘junked’ Barad-dûr, complete with a colourful Eye of Sauron at the very top.
“Many years ago when my youngest was into Star Wars we started to ‘scavenge build’ old LEGO sets with anything that was available to us,” wrote the redditor in their post. “This became quite a hobby, so here’s our latest build: Barad-Dûr, more or less according to the original instructions but with insanely many improvisations and absolutely no claim for colour correctness.”

Colour correctness aside, it’s an impressive feat, especially with the amount of details packed into the interior. There are still skeletons and a Mouth of Sauron minifigure sat in pride of place, as well as some creative use of Minecraft zombies to stand in for orcs. A special mention goes to the use of a tiny gingerbread house in place of the Palantir.

Creativity like this is what makes LEGO special as a hobby. Sure, you’ll need to bulk up on parts (no matter how you build it, 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr still has well over 5,000 pieces) but adapting sets in this way puts your own special twist on both the build process and the final display.

I’ve never seen these called “Junk” models. We call these “Rainbow Vomit” in my AFOL circles. Still a pretty impressive Barad-dur for a rainbow vomit.
