LEGO Lunar New Year sets due to launch on December 25

Following an earlier reveal, we now know when and where this year’s range of LEGO Lunar New Year sets will be launching.

With the 5th China International Import Expo now in full swing, the LEGO Group has officially revealed details of five colourful new sets that will be arriving next month. The 2023 models celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, taking their inspiration from rich elements of Chinese culture and traditions, and include Lunar New Year, Monkie Kid and DUPLO builds.

Although no specifics have been released regarding any potential pricing or piece counts, some initial information on the sets does at least provide an overview of what we can expect from each model.

80110 Lunar New Year Display

80110 Lunar New Year Display includes two builds in one set, with each model featuring iconic festive symbols. One has buildable golden ingots in a Yuan Bao design, with a koi fish for good luck and red pockets symbolizing good wishes. A ‘Zhao Cai Jin Bao’ greeting on the build welcomes fortune and treasures into the home. The second LEGO Lunar New Year Display model has buildable peony flowers and a ‘Hua Kai Fu Gui’ greeting, which means blooming prosperity and happiness.

80111 Lunar New Year Parade

Next up is 80111 Lunar New Year Parade, which recreates a traditional parade with three connectible floats and what appears to be at least 17 themed minifigures, including Monkie Kid himself. A giant rabbit sitting on top of the first float moves when the model is pushed, a large drum is attached to the second and a blue LEGO brick can be seen on the third.

80045 Monkey King Ultra Mech

Stomping its way into future collections is 80045 Monkey King Ultra Mech, which looks set to follow in the giant footsteps of 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech. The massive build features various upgrades and add-on accessories, a large red and gold staff and multiple minifigures such as Monkie Kid.

40648 Money Tree

40648 Money Tree is a unique brick-based build that includes various decorations in the shape of tangerines, red envelopes and coins which represent prosperity and good luck in Chinese culture. The model should certainly make an impressive and colourful display piece.

10411 Learn About Chinese Culture

Finally, 10411 Learn About Chinese Culture is a DUPLO set that aims to introduce younger builders to Chinese traditions. Parents will be able to teach various aspects of Chinese culture using the set, with a specific focus on food, music, games and more.

All five sets will be available in China and other territories from December 25, 2022. We’ll be providing further updates to this story as more details emerge.
