LEGO Marvel 5008076 Taxi gift-with-purchase review

LEGO Marvel 5008076 Taxi offers up a vehicle, four minifigures, and – even if it’s a little small – ties in perfectly with 76269 Avengers Tower.

Available as a promotional free item exclusively for LEGO Insiders members purchasing 76269 Avengers Tower from November 24 to 27 (or while stocks last) at LEGO.com or in LEGO Stores comes LEGO Marvel 5008076 Taxi.

A 150-piece, four-minifigure gift-with-purchase, 5008076 Taxi tries to pack a lot into one of the smaller boxes we have seen for a promotional item this year. Indeed, for having been spoiled the last couple of years with ever-increasing-in-size GWPs, this one does feel on the small side, particularly for the qualifying purchase required, which stands at £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99.

For that outlay you get a printed six-stud-wide taxi, a taxi driver, Black Panther, and two Outriders. Canonically they may or may not fit into what you are looking for with 76269 Avengers Tower, but aesthetically the taxi does complement the gigantic LEGO skyscraper set perfectly, and helps to even better mirror 76178 Daily Bugle which also came with its own LEGO cab.

The design for this taxi is more modern and sleek, to even better tie in with the LEGO Marvel set it is designed to work with, and there’s little to criticise in its appearance, or for the fact you get four minifigures in the one GWP – as well as one of the trans-clear connectors to pose Black Panther nicely on top. There’s also an Avengers-themed baseball cap, a briefcase and a taco in the luggage compartment, indicating the man (and minifigure) himself Kevin Feige was the most recent fare for this particular cab.

That all being said and with at least the one eye firmly trained on pretty much every other GWP we have received in the last two years, 5008076 Taxi may reach the same levels of quality in design and detail, but does not necessarily come in at a fair enough size or piece count for the amount of money required to purchase the single set to which this is linked. Four minifigures as an argument for why only counts when the four minifigures are all desirable. The two outriders would have been much better being swapped out to give credence to that.

Even so, for those day-one purchasers of 76269 Avengers Tower, 5008076 Taxi serves as an excellent little bonus, so there’ll be few complaints by those able to pick this up.
