LEGO Marvel and DC are repeating history over a decade later

The latest LEGO Marvel and DC sets to be revealed showcase how the themes are repeating history over a decade after they started.

In 2012, three buildable figures each for Marvel and DC launched as some of the first sets for the themes (not including Spider-Man models for Marvel). These included Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Batman, Joker and Green Lantern.

With the reveal of the summer 2023 sets for LEGO Marvel and DC, half of that list is back as buildable figures. 76258 Captain America Construction Figure and 76259 Batman Construction Figure join 76206 Iron Man Figure as half of the characters covered in the initial range for both superhero themes.

2012’s collection of figures consists of 4526 Batman, 4527 The Joker and 4528 Green Lantern for DC as well as 4529 Iron Man, 4530 The Hulk and 4597 Captain America for Marvel. All we need is a new buildable figure of Joker, Green Lantern and Hulk to more completely revisit the early days of LEGO Marvel and DC

The newer figures are all based on or tied into current projects from X-Men ‘97 for 76257 Wolverine Construction Figure to The Flash for the 1989 Batman figure. That may limit the possibilities for future characters as buildable figures.

It’s an interesting turn of events over one decade later as the LEGO Group appears to be embracing brick-built figures outside of the constraction system. As well as the summer 2023 models, recent sets including 76421 Dobby the House-Elf and 40581 BIONICLE Tahu and Takua suggest a fondness for figures using standard pieces.
