The LEGO Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse is one we’ve seen before
The short LEGO section from the latest Spider-Verse movie has bigger implications than it seems.
Warning: some very slight story spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse follow.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse certainly has no shortage of interesting Spider-cameos from all corners of the multiverse, but one is of particular interest to LEGO fans. Early in the film, when the Spot is traveling into alternate universes, he briefly appears in a universe made entirely of LEGO bricks, where the audience encounters LEGO Spider-Man.
The scene, which was animated by 14-year-old Preston Mutanga, features Spidey heading to the bathroom at the Daily Bugle to report his Spot sighting to Miguel O’Hara, AKA Spider-Man 2099. Later in the film, when we finally see Miguel’s epic spider-society, LEGO Spider-Man actually has another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo.

Sitting with some other Spider-People on top of Peter Parkedcar, a sentient car, we see that LEGO Spider-Man is known as Peter of Earth-13122. We also see that he’s tiny – the actual size of a LEGO minifigure.
What’s the deal with Earth-13122? Well, according to the Marvel Database’s official reality numbering system, Earth-13122 is the LEGO Marvel Universe, which is where the events of the video games LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and its sequels take place.

That’s right: the LEGO Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse is the very same LEGO Spider-Man that appears in cutscenes and as a playable character in one of the all-time classic LEGO video games. This information shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, since Miguel told LEGO Peter that he’s ‘one of our best’, and the LEGO video game Spidey has been through a whole lot.
In the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game, Spider-Man battles the likes of Sandman, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Venom, MODOK, Magneto, Doctor Doom, and even Galactus. He fights alongside the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four to save the entire LEGO world. In LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2, he teams up with heroes from across the multiverse to defeat Kang the Conqueror.
This Spidey’s been through a lot. He even meets a LEGO version of his 2099 counterpart in the second game, which may be where he made the connection to Across the Spider-Verse’s Miguel. It makes sense why he’d be considered one of the best spiders in the bunch, and it’s exciting to know that the story of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is still going strong.
Well, maybe not going ‘strong’. But definitely going.
