LEGO Minecraft’s Brickerite is designed to be broken

LEGO Minecraft is celebrating 15 years of Minecraft with a unique build and a behind-the-scenes video has shared why it’s meant to be broken.

Minecraft is turning 15 years old this year and the LEGO Minecraft team is celebrating the anniversary with an announcement on June 1 as well as a build that has been sent out to various Minecraft online creators.

The LEGO Brickerite Ore invites those creators to break it open and build a memory from in-game using the provided pieces contained inside. Though you won’t be able to purchase this item, a closer look at the creation and its design has been shared online.

The LEGO designers intend for the LEGO Brickerite Ore to be broken open and as such, some parts are built to break apart and others are glued to give the block some stability. It appears that transporting the model without it breaking open prematurely was a hurdle to overcome, given the amount of bubble wrap they were experimenting with.

Around 2000 pieces can be stored inside and the LEGO Brickerite Ore was designed digitally first to emulate the appearance of traditional Minecraft ores. Notably, a second layer of bricks is kept inside for stability, though an early yellow layer design proves that it can still be broken apart with enough force.

Each box comes with gloves, goggles and a brick-built pickaxe to break open the ore and the bespoke items have been sent out in custom LEGO Minecraft boxes.

While the LEGO Brickerite Ore will not be available for purchase, the LEGO Minecraft summer 2024 sets are right around the corner and something is being announced on June 1. Rumours for an 18+ LEGO Minecraft set have surfaced, though it is unknown whether this will be revealed next month.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
