LEGO Monkie Kid 80054 Megapolis City 2024 set unveiled

The first LEGO Monkie Kid set unveiled for 2024 is 80054 Megapolis City, a sprawling modular build that’s also the theme’s third-biggest set of all time.

Coming in at 2,330 pieces, 80054 Megapolis City – unveiled at the sixth Chinese International Import Expo, with images available through the LEGO Builder app – sits behind only 80049 Dragon of the East Palace and 80039 The Heavenly Realms in sheer quantity of elements. That makes it bigger than its closest contemporary 80036 The City of Lanterns, last year’s flagship metropolitan Monkie Kid set.

The enormous model is packed with a staggering 17 characters, from Monkie Kid and Mei to the White Bone Queen and returning villains Evil Macaque and Spider Queen. They populate a towering build that includes plenty of nods to LEGO history, from the Classic Space-themed elevator to the wooden duck homage that sits at the peak. There’s also a ferris wheel, tree and multiple shops and stalls.

According to these early images, 80054 Megapolis City is completely reconfigurable: every section is built in a modular format, so you can chop, change and rearrange them as you like. That wooden duck up top doesn’t have to sit so high, for example, while you could also position the ferris wheel a little closer to the ground if you’ve got your health and safety hat on.

The LEGO Group has yet to confirm a price or release date for 80054 Megapolis City, but those details will hopefully follow very soon.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
