The clear acrylic used not only looks great and is incredibly sturdy, but keeps those precious LEGO sets as dust-free as the day they were built. More commonly known for crafting clear cases, recently iDisplayit has begun including vinyl backdrops for its display options.

Thanks to its brick-built plinth, the Creator Expert set already looks good on display – but this wall mount literally takes things to a whole new level.

— Build —

The first thing to notice is the size of the packaging when it arrives, because it’s massive. Inside there are a whole host of parts, screws, washers and acrylic plates, and it feels like spreading out an incredibly grown-up LEGO set with all the various components.

For those less inclined towards DIY projects it could prove daunting, but the task is made somewhat easier thanks to the neat and organised way the parts have been packed. The instructions are also incredibly easy to follow, with clear illustrations and precise steps guiding you through each stage of the display case’s assembly.

The outercase comes together very easily, and the way the brackets slide and twist into position is actually quite satisfying – not to mention incredibly simple to screw into place. Smaller brackets are used to attach both the Hubble and Discovery shuttle to the display mount so that they remain in position once hung on the wall.

Once built, attaching the space shuttle is very straightforward, simply sliding on to the hooks until it slots into position. Barely any force is required and once connected it feels very stable. Likewise, the Hubble Telescope just rests into the adjacent cradle, and again feels very sturdy.

There’s space for both plaques to be added to the display mount using the included 1×1 round plates, which makes for a great touch and finishes off the entire thing nicely. The use of official LEGO round 1×1 tiles also adds an extra layer of quality to the mount, leaving it feeling less like a third-party product and more an extension of the brand.

The quality of this mount is unquestionable. It feels sturdy, looks great, repels dust magnificently and all around just feels like a premium product. Once completed, the mount measures 73cm high, 73cm wide and has a depth of 29cm.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the space needed to hang this mount on the wall – not because the mount is too big, but because our wall space is taken up with myriad other sets. However, even leaning it against the wall still created impressive results. It looks fantastic, bringing a touch of elegance to the entire LEGO set.

There is no escaping the fact that £192 is a lot of money to spend on a display case, especially considering 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery is only £159.99. However, everything about this product exudes class – from the care taken in the packaging and the ease with which it comes together, to the quality finish and of course the final look.

It really is a stunning way to display 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery. It is expensive, yes, but you won’t be disappointed with this purchase – and can you really put a price on protecting your much-loved LEGO sets? Yes, you can, and it’s £192.
