LEGO NINJAGO 2024 has three waves and the first is all about mechs

The first LEGO NINJAGO sets for 2024 are focused on mechs but there are two good reasons for this set selection as NINJAGO braces for change.

Revealed earlier this week, the NINJAGO 2024 sets showcased so far include 11 models and six of those feature mechs. While LEGO NINJAGO is no stranger to mech models, that’s still a staggering amount for one wave. Note that 71815 Kai’s Source Dragon Battle and 71817 Lloyd’s Elemental Power Mech have not had their release dates confirmed at this time, but a launch in January seems plausible.

However, a member of the LEGO NINJAGO design team has offered insight into this choice and revealed that the theme’s enthusiasts have little to worry about in 2024.

“This year, we have three waves. This one is mostly centred around our new mix-and-mech play concept,” writes Niek van Slagmaat on X (formerly Twitter). “Each of the four mechs can be customized with parts of the others.”

While the first LEGO NINJAGO 2024 wave is focused on mechs, that’s to accommodate the customisable feature and offer the most choice possible on January 1, 2024. The sets included in this concept are confirmed to be 71806 Cole’s Elemental Earth Mech, 71807 Sora’s Elemental Tech Mech, 71808 Kai’s Elemental Fire Mech, but the design of 71817 Lloyd’s Elemental Power Mech suggests that it should be compatible too.

However, that’s not all LEGO NINJAGO enthusiasts can look forward to in 2024 as the designer has confirmed that this is just the first of three waves coming in 2024. Previously, the theme has traditionally had two waves per year – one for each new season or a Core instalment. The contents of the other two waves have not been confirmed at this time.

Rumours for NINJAGO in 2024 include a few sets in a March wave and summer 2024 models. However, these have not been officially confirmed at the time of writing.

I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
