LEGO owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen spills all in authorised biography

The LEGO Group’s third-generation owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen has revealed how his family started the company in a tell-all authorised biography launching later this year.

First published in Danish in 2021, The LEGO Story is finally getting an English-language edition in November, and is available to pre-order at Amazon now. Written by award-winning author Jens Andersen, who has also penned biographies of Hans Christian Andersen and Danish royal family members, spent hours interviewing Kristiansen for the 432-page book.

Charting 90 years of LEGO history, complete with archival photographs, The LEGO Story goes beyond the life and times of Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen to detail how his grandfather Ole Kirk first started the LEGO Group in 1932. Along the way, Andersen recounts how the Kristiansen family transformed the company from a small carpentry business into a world-leading toy manufacturer.

If you have any interest in LEGO history, this sounds like a book you’re going to want to seek out. It’s currently available for pre-order at Amazon, where it will launch on November 15 in the US and November 24 in the UK. At the time of writing, the hardback version is listed for £23, or 18% off its RRP.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
