LEGO Pick a Brick cardboard packaging timeline now confirmed
The LEGO Group has confirmed when people around the world can expect to see the last of the classic Pick a Brick plastic cups.
It’s no secret that LEGO Pick a Brick areas in stores are gradually transitioning away from the familiar plastic cups that they’re known for, with the replacement cardboard boxes popping up more and more in locations around the world. The flat-pack, quick-assembly cardboard boxes are replacing plastic cups as a more sustainable alternative that fits just as many pieces in, as demonstrated in this side-by-side comparison.
Not only can the new boxes be recycled, unlike their plastic predecessors, they also take up less than half of the space of the old container, meaning they are easier and more efficient to store and ship. The LEGO Group has now confirmed that the new format is being phased in across European and North American markets during the remainder of 2023, while South American and Asian markets will follow soon after in 2024. That means the days of the old cups are numbered.
It’s also worth noting plastic cups are no longer valid at LEGO stores either, so if you already own a cup, don’t take it into your LEGO store to stock up on your favourite LEGO elements and pieces.

My store took the cups on Nov 13 and gave me the refill price.
