LEGO Pirates enthusiasts have been sailing smoothly in 2023 so far and the waters ahead are looking clear with a new GWP on the way.
LEGO Pirates, one of many nostalgic themes that longtime LEGO enthusiasts are consistently eager for a new entry, has a new gift-with-purchase coming in the form of 40597 Scary Pirate Island.
While worldwide details of its availability have yet to be confirmed after being initially revealed by a Thai LEGO Certified Store, the LEGO GWP is undeniably another Pirates model. However, it doesn’t appear to be referencing any specific set, just the overall appearance and aesthetic of the classic theme.
Despite this, it’s the latest in a notably long list of LEGO sets based on the original Pirates theme, of which there have been more in 2023 than there have been in recent years.
LEGO Pirates may not be directly referenced in 40589 Pirate Ship Playground, but the gift is not based on a license so we’ll include it in this report for the sake of comparison. Otherwise, 40504 A Minifigure Tribute and 10320 Eldorado Fortress make up the numerous LEGO Pirates models available in 2023, both of which 40597 Scary Pirate Island should pair great with.
This current era of LEGO Pirates’ return is similar to the ongoing trend of modernised LEGO Castle models, including 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle and two minifigures in 71037 Series 24. For fans of the classic theme, 2023 has been a good year so far.
