LEGO Pokémon’s small set draws inspiration from everywhere

The smallest of the five LEGO Pokémon sets takes the most iconic parts of the Pokémon Center in each game to create a new, but inspired version.

The only LEGO Pokémon set revealed this week, which you cannot pre-order ahead of launch, is 40911 Mini Pokémon Center. The upcoming LEGO Insiders reward will be available on February 27 for 2,500 points and takes inspiration from all the different versions of the location from across the franchise.

After looking closely at the architectural features, the layout, and the design of its equipment, we can see which generation of games 40911 Mini Pokémon Center has taken the most inspiration from to create a LEGO-unique version of the iconic location.

The exterior design with sliding doors

The exterior design of 40911 Mini Pokémon Center, with the white Poké Ball logo and a higher curved section, seems to be based primarily on the structure as seen in the third generation of games. There are even sliding doors, which have also been seen in various other generations, but the debut of two sliding doors wasn’t until later generations.

That’s not the only example of the upcoming LEGO Insiders reward taking inspiration from the third-generation games, though.

The interior layout and decor

The overall interior layout with the yellow floor and the emblem in the middle of the room most closely resembles the third-generation depiction of the Pokémon Center, though the red surfaces at the back have been taken from older games, demonstrating that 40911 Mini Pokémon Center is a celebration of all Pokémon Center designs.

The glass coffee table on the right of the room has been seen in many games, including those in the third generation, as has the bookshelf in the wall, but one section of the interior has a more specific source.

The red PC

The PC in 40911 Mini Pokémon Center is red with a curve at the top. This most closely resembles the PC from the sixth generation of games, which then changed the design of the PC in all future generations. This generation also features a red countertop, but the healing machine was in the back of the room, instead of embedded into the countertop.

This machine takes inspiration from several generations, currently filled with three Poké Balls. The Pokémon inside are not being displayed, as they would be in later games.

The signature potted plants

Another important detail inside 40911 Mini Pokémon Center to note is the two potted plants in the corner of the room. Almost every generation’s Pokémon Center has included similar potted plants, though the first generation looked less full than in later games. The LEGO Insiders reward uses the new tulip element to reference these fuller plants.

By taking inspiration from several generations, 40911 Mini Pokémon Center stands out as a LEGO-unique entry into the list of Pokémon Centers. You can pick it up from February 27 for 2,500 points. Both 72151 Eevee and 72152 Pikachu and Poké Ball are available to pre-order ahead of launch.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
