A new series of LEGO minifigures is on the way based on the Shrek movies, and the fantasy parody franchise is the perfect excuse for useful Castle parts.
71053 Shrek was recently revealed, featuring 12 new minifigures inspired by the popular animated franchise, which just so happens to be getting a fifth instalment soon. For fans of the long-running DreamWorks franchise, there's no additional excuse required to pick up at least some of these 12 minifigures.

Those who are more unfamiliar with Shrek or at least less enthusiastic still have a reason to consider some of the new minifigures, though. Shrek's movies are parodies of fairytales and fantasy tropes, usually with a modern twist, but the design language of the characters and costumes is still rooted in fantasy and Medieval aspects.
As such, the new 71053 Shrek minifigures are going to be perfect for LEGO fans needing more minifigure parts for their Castle display. It also helps that every single one of them is at a high level of detail. Here are some of the best minifigures in 71053 Shrek for Castle fans.

Merlin starts our selection with wrap-around printing on his rune-laden clothes. While Merlin is accurately sporting a mini robe with exposed legs, such a look might not be ideal for a Castle world. The torso is still going to be handy to have a couple of for nobles and especially wizards.
Merlin's hat is also the classic style of wizard cap, the likes of which don't often have such detailed printing. Castle fans will certainly want to grab at least one Merlin from 71053.
Thelonius is another good pick for LEGO executioner minifigures, complete with a black hood element. The real star of the show here is the dual-moulded legs, though. Despite the gold 'F' belt buckle, the booted legs are going to be incredibly useful for all kinds of characters and minifigures across a medieval world.

Fiona is one of the stars of 71053 Shrek, and there may be some use for her minifigure elements beyond the series. Fiona is depicted in 71053 Shrek in her ogre form, with some green skin showing on her torso. If you can find a way to cover that neckline up, you'll have a great torso for nobles, as long as you also swap the arms.
Alternatively, you could embrace the green skin for nobles of different species in a fantasy display. Either way, the simply-printed dress piece will be useful to have spare.

Farquad is a personal favourite minifigure in 71053 Shrek, and his torso and legs are easily applicable to rich Castle characters. His short stature might be hard to overcome, unless you don't mind a minifigure's belt being higher than their waist. Despite this, depicting children of nobles will be easy with a couple of LEGO Farquads to hand.

Shrek's minifigure in 71053 Shrek doesn't have the same issue as Fiona, with no green skin showing across the torso and legs, aside from the hands. Those hands can be easily swapped, and Shrek's outfit is going to be great for expanding the fashion of commoners in your Castle world.
Even just the legs with wrap-around printing are going to be great to have multiple of, rather than just using plain brown legs. Grab a few of this minifigure when it launches later this year, and figure out what to do with all of those spare Shrek heads.

Prince Charming rounds out this report as easily the most useful minifigure to have for Castle fans. As one of the most regal characters across the Shrek franchise, Charming is dressed in luxurious clothing embellished with fleur de lys.
Charming's torso and legs, swapping the hands, are some of the best parts in 71053 Shrek for Castle fans, and you'll definitely want to grab this minifigure multiple times when 71053 Shrek launches.
