LEGO makes six-figure donation to support emergency relief in Turkey and Syria

The LEGO Group will make a large donation to support emergency relief efforts in Turkey and Syria, following catastrophic earthquakes on Monday.

At the time of writing, the BBC reported that the death toll had exceeded 20,000 people (split between 17,134 in Turkey and at least 3,162 in Syria), with the search for survivors still ongoing and the fatalities expected to rise. What’s more, Dr Hans Kluge, WHO’s regional director for Europe warned the BBC that ‘a second disaster [is] looming unless we act very, very fast, meaning shelter, food, water, and medicine because it’s freezing cold.”

As such, relief efforts are underway around the world, with individuals, governments, and companies all donating money and resources to emergency appeals. The LEGO Group shared today that it would also do its part for the campaign.

“Our thoughts are with all the children and families affected by the terrible earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria,” wrote the company on LinkedIn. “The LEGO Group will donate DKK 5.5 million (c USD 800,000) to the Danish Red Cross to support emergency relief efforts.

“Meanwhile, our friends at The LEGO Foundation will continue their work with long-standing partners, including the Sesame Workshop, International Rescue Committee, Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (ASAM), to support children in Türkiye and Syria.”
