Day 1 LEGO Space minifigure hunting with Brick Search

Join Brick Fanatics at the LEGO Store on day one as we go hunting for Series 26 Space minifigures using the Brick Search app.

71046 Series 26 Space has just landed at LEGO Stores and LEGO.com, which meant Brick Fanatics had a mission this Wednesday morning: wake up early, catch a rush-hour train into town and be at the LEGO Store for doors opening, ready to start sifting through minifigure boxes to find a complete set.

Matthew and I met at the Leeds LEGO Store bright and early to find a queue of at least 12 people eagerly awaiting the new LEGO Minifigures, along with some other Star Wars stuff that’s apparently happening today too. (Or so one of the LEGO Store employees waving a brick-built lightsaber around told us.) After a little polite British queuing, the doors swung open at 9am on the dot and we were in.

While everyone else was busy filling their boots with Sith Infiltrators and TIE Interceptors, we made a beeline for the Collectible Minifigures stand, where a couple of people were already busy scanning boxes with Brick Search. The app has all the data matrix codes from the new series ready to go, so you can download it on iOS or Android ahead of your own minifigure hunting trips.

We had two goals in mind: find a complete set of 12 characters with no duplicates (for Matthew), and at least three extra Alien Tourists (for me to sprinkle around my collection). You can see how we got on – and whether the minifigures we bought were indeed those we were after, and which Brick Search said we had scanned – by checking out our latest YouTube video.

Want to see more of us in action? Check out our tour of Billund and LEGO HQ, and subscribe to the Brick Fanatics YouTube channel for much more of Matthew’s face. If you want to replicate our results, download Brick Search, learn how to use the minifigure scanner and head out to your local LEGO Minifigures stockist.

71046 Series 26 Space is available at LEGO.com, in LEGO Stores and through all good third-party retailers now.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
