LEGO Star Trek GWP isn’t the first to tease potential future Icons models

Some previous LEGO Icons sets have hinted at future builds, but is 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D’s GWP trying to pull the same trick?

This year’s LEGO Black Friday set drops on November 28 in the distinctive and highly-anticipated shape of 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D. The LEGO Icons model is the first to be based on the Star Trek franchise and comes with a free minifigure-scale 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod GWP for Insiders.

Within the smaller 261-piece build is a sticker representing the craft’s LCARS display system, one that boasts both a Stardate mistake and an image of another Star Trek: The Next Generation ship that might hint at which corner of the brick-built universe the theme may be exploring next.

Specifically, the sticker in the 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod shows a D’Deridex-class Romulan Warbird, a large green ship utilised by the aggressive alien species that’s long been hostile to the Federation in Star Trek lore.

Sure, on its own, the image of the Romulan Warbird might not mean much, but looking back to previous Middle-earth releases from the LEGO Icons theme may shed some light on what might be in the pipeline for any potential future releases from the near 60 year-old sci-fi franchise.

Contained within 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr and 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire were stickered maps, with the first two hinting at the next upcoming model in the series (so far).

That might well prove to be the approach that the LEGO Icons design team takes with Star Trek, with more massive starship releases instead of a commitment to a fully-fledged theme.

Of course, that’s just pure speculation on our part for now and will most likely depend on how well 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D sells once it’s released. A brick-built Romulan Warbird would certainly make sense, offering up an enemy ship to compliment the Federation vessel, one that has its own striking emerald colour scheme.

We’ll have to wait and see for now if the LEGO Icons team has indeed planted a sneaky Easter egg in 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod and if that nod to another Star Trek vessel results in the theme continuing to explore the final frontier further in the future.

10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D will be released on November 28, 2025, priced at £349.99 / $399.99 / €379.99. Insiders will be eligible for the free 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod GWP from November 28 to December 1 with all purchases of the LEGO Icons model (while stocks last).

IMHO the D’deridex class ships are the most elegant ships in the series, so this would be great. Definitely in my top 3 choices for sets, with DS9 and the Borg cube being the others.
