New LEGO Star Wars book bundle brings back rare minifigure six years later

A trio of new LEGO book bundles has been discovered at Costco, including a LEGO Star Wars book bundle that brings back a rare minifigure.

Thanks to Costco, Dry_Strawberry_Legs on Reddit and echoalive122_ on Instagram, we now know of three new LEGO book bundles in partnership with DK for Star Wars, Marvel and Harry Potter. They don’t feature any new books, minifigures or sets, instead repackaging books with minifigures and polybags alongside playmats, perfect for gifts ahead of Christmas.

What is interesting though, is one minifigure in the LEGO Star Wars bundle. Alongside Darth Maul’s 25th-anniversary minifigure from the most recent visual dictionary and 30680 AAT, U-3PO from 2016 and 2018 has made a surprise comeback.

This droid minifigure was only previously available first in 2016’s LEGO Star Wars advent calendar and the LEGO Star Wars – Choose Your Path, Be The Hero, Discover The Galaxy! book from 2018. Six years later, the rare minifigure is back suddenly in another LEGO book package.

It’s a good opportunity for anyone who missed out on the original set and book featuring the U-3PO minifigure and as noted by the users, the book bundles present good value anyway at $17.99 each at Costco. So far, they’ve been spotted in the US but hopefully, they’ll make their way to other regions eventually.

Either way, we weren’t expecting the protocol droid minifigure to return, for the 25th-anniversary of LEGO Star Wars no less. Note that while we know what is featured in the Marvel bundle, a good image of the Harry Potter book has not yet been shared online. It seems to feature 30677 Draco in the Forbidden Forest and the 2024 visual dictionary featuring Cedric Diggory based on the cover and piece count.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
