LEGO Star Wars fans are already putting together Mando’s new ship

There’s a new Star Wars ship in town, and it’s taken LEGO fans approximately three minutes to put together any number of brick-built versions of Mando’s latest mode of transport.

Spoilers follow for the latest episode of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, so look away now if you haven’t yet caught up on the current Disney+ show from a galaxy far, far away.

It’s fair to say that Chapter Five of The Book of Boba Fett feels more like an episode of The Mandalorian than part of Temuera Morrison’s show, giving us 45 minutes of pure Din Djarin action. Like the spin-off series, it’s set in the aftermath of the events of The Mandalorian’s second season finale, which means Mando’s wielding the Darksaber – and doesn’t have a ship to his name.

That’s because the Razor Crest unfortunately got in the way of Moff Gideon’s laser cannons midway through Series 2, leaving behind only Din’s Beskar spear. As such, we find him in Chapter Five of The Book of Boba Fett on a commercial flight to Tatooine, where he meets his old pal Peli Motto – who’s brought him to the desert planet with the promise of a replacement for the Razor Crest.

Not a replacement Razor Crest, crucially, but a replacement for the Razor Crest, in the form of a classic ship we last saw in The Phantom Menace. Following an extended ‘80s montage of two mechanics at work (and a couple of very weird Jawa jokes), Mando ends up with a revamped Naboo N-1 Starfighter to call his own.

For any LEGO fan, it’s difficult to watch any new Star Wars material without gears turning in your head for what could be a possible set, or what could inspire your next custom build. The N-1 Starfighter ticks both those boxes (it’s almost guaranteed to get a LEGO set at some point, if not this summer), and plenty of fans have already given it a go using their own part collections.

In fact, over at r/legostarwars – where the ship has already been affectionately dubbed as ‘Metallic Wizard’ (given Mando’s reaction to flying it for the first time) – there are already at least 15 different takes on the modified N-1 Starfighter. Most aim for minifigure scale, and you can check out a selection of those below.

Elsewhere, some builders have opted for smaller-scale takes on the starfighter. Reddit user xadriancalim came up with a Microfighter version – another sure-fire bet for a future set – while ron_mcphatty went even smaller with a microscale rendition. SrirachaShaman even managed to cobble together a sort of mid-sized version using three copies of 75321 The Razor Crest Microfighter.

Whenever the LEGO Group gets round to releasing its own version of Mando’s new ship (whatever its in-universe name ends up being – presumably not Metallic Wizard), it’s safe to say we’ll be looking at a minifigure-scale version that doesn’t go quite as heavy on drum-lacquered silver (or chrome) parts as some of these custom builds.

In fact, going by 75292 The Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Transport, we’ll probably just get a version that mixes light and dark grey, with a couple of drum-lacquered silver highlights if we’re lucky. So until then, and even possibly beyond that point, you might want to just take a crack at building it yourself, adding in as many metallic silver pieces as you can.

Or, like RedHood364, you could always just paint your LEGO. Puritans, look away now…

If you’ve not yet caught up on it (in which case, why are you reading this?!), the latest episode of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett is now available to stream on Disney+. The LEGO Group hasn’t launched any official tie-in sets yet, but at least two are rumoured to be on the way later this year.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

Any sources or leaks on the sets for the new ship? I’m really hoping for a collector series. High with detail that can be put on display! The nostalgia made me fall in love with this ship! Fits Mando perfectly! Imagine this ship pulls up at next to light speed and out jumps a Mandalorian wielding the dark saber! That alone would intimidate Almost anyone in the galaxy!

Here’s a question, have fans also started to build Halo? Because Halo was also introduced in The Book of Boba Fett.

Cool designs, but, am I the only one who isn’t impressed by renders?
I get impressed when people build something cool and be in awe at their collection and the parts they have to be able to build it. I don’t care for someone who builds it in an app with infinite pieces available.
