LEGO Star Wars lightsaber teases SMART Brick crossover
There’s more to an upcoming LEGO Star Wars make and take event than meets the eye, with potential SMART Brick compatibility added into the mix too.
An upcoming LEGO Star Wars make and take event will be hosted by LEGO Stores this weekend, with a free brick-built lightsaber up for grabs. While that in itself may not seem all that surprising, fresh information regarding crossover possibilities with the recently-released LEGO SMART Play system has now come to light that should make the event even more enticing.
Brick Fanatics managed to attend a recent make and take at Disneyland Paris, where a code for a set of downloadable instructions for the 43-piece model were made freely available. The included information notes that a demo kit handed out to LEGO Store staff mentions repurposing SMART Bricks, Tags and minifigures to ‘promote this responsive new play possibility.’

The interactive element can be spotted on top of the lightsaber, with a red LEGO SMART Tag placed underneath, the same item included in 75427 Throne Room Duel & A-Wing, which allows the set’s Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader minifigures to battle it out accompanied by light and sound effects.

In addition, the LEGO Star Wars lightsaber build comes with three interchangeable blades in red, green and blue, two more than the make and take model shows, allowing fans to swap them around based on their favourite characters.
The LEGO Star Wars lightsaber make and take’s instructions go on to encourage staff to ‘direct the shoppers and kids to the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play assortment for awareness and purchase intent,’ as well as adding SMART Bricks, Tags and minifigures to the build in order to show how the elements can unlock ‘social play, battles, music and storytelling.’

The LEGO SMART Brick demos are likely to be part of this weekend’s LEGO Star Wars lightsaber make and take event, which rolls around on March 7 between 10am and 12pm and March 8 between 12pm and 2pm in the UK, plus March 8 between 12pm and 2pm in the US, while stocks last.
