LEGO Star Wars sequel trilogy diorama rumoured for 2023

LEGO Star Wars will apparently be returning to the sequel trilogy for the first time since 2020 later this year, with a diorama set based on the Holiday Special.

That’s not the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, but rather 2020’s LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, which also served as the inspiration for that year’s Star Wars advent calendar. Instagram user 1414falconfan reports (via redditor FluffySky6) that a LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special Diorama is now coming later this year, right on time(!) and complete with four minifigures.

Those will apparently consist of Rey, Finn, Chewbacca and BB-8, marking the first time we’ve seen the sequel trilogy gang in a new set since The Rise of Skywalker was in cinemas. This set seemingly won’t follow 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama and 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama in format, however, as it’s being billed as a new type of promotional set.

That means it may arrive as a gift-with-purchase, albeit one packed with way more minifigures than we’ve ever seen in a LEGO Star Wars freebie before, or perhaps as a LEGO.com/LEGO Store-exclusive set. Either way, the theme suggests it will likely debut in the second half of 2023, closer to the festive season.

We don’t have much else to go on at the moment, and even these details should be taken with a grain of salt – but across a portfolio otherwise dominated by the prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars, the original trilogy, The Mandalorian and (potentially) Ahsoka, sequel trilogy fans will likely just be grateful to squeeze in anywhere at this stage.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
