An upcoming LEGO Star Wars set includes an odd selection of minifigures

This week’s reveal of 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor brings us a first look at the LEGO Star Wars set’s odd minifigure selection.

The LEGO Group finally revealed details of the upcoming 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor this week, with the model based on scenes from Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 3. The 957-piece build includes both ships and four LEGO Star Wars characters, with a launch date of May 1 and a retail price of £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.

The inclusion of a new version of the Empire’s TIE Interceptor is sure to gets fans excited to add the vehicle to their collections, while the Mandalorian Fang Fighter makes its debut in the set, mirroring the appearance of the craft in Season 3 of the Disney+ show. However, when it comes to the minifigures bundled in with 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor, we’re a little puzzled as to why certain characters were selected.

Sure, Din Djarin is a must, even though the character doesn’t actually wield the Darksaber during the finale, and a TIE Pilot is obviously required for that specific ship. We’re more uncertain as to why the Mandalorian Fleet Commander (unnamed in the show, but played by Travis Parker) is included though, instead of a far more likely candidate, Axe Woves. Likewise, the new design for the R2-E6 droid is certainly appreciated (even if we didn’t spot the character in the show), but another Mandalorian warrior, a Beskar-clad Imperial commando or even Moff Gideon in his sleek black Dark Trooper armour would surely have been much better choices?

For now we’ll content ourselves with what 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor does manage bring to the table when the LEGO Star Wars set arrives online and in stores on May 1.
