LEGO Star Wars The Force of Creativity book revealed

The LEGO Group has unveiled a brand new coffee table book to celebrate the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars, which comes complete with a time capsule of exclusive memorabilia.

The Force of Creativity debuts on July 20 and will be available to pre-order at LEGO.com from May 1 for £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99. The 312-page hardcover book – authored by former Brick Fanatics editor Graham E. Hancock – includes interviews with more than 50 people across Lucasfilm and the LEGO Group, and promises to tell ‘the inside story’ of LEGO Star Wars, covering official sets, video games, the fan community and more.

Along with previously-unseen character designs and development art, The Force of Creativity will include a time capsule of collectibles, ranging from a replica 1999 Toy Fair invite to an unproduced animation script. You’ll also receive a postcard with an early version of the original LEGO Star Wars 1999 logo, a development sketch for an early print ad, development art for an unreleased Zam Wesell minifigure from 2020 and more.

The official images of the book shared by the LEGO Group suggest The Force of Creativity will offer a genuinely deep dive into the history of LEGO Star Wars beyond any we’ve seen before, with one image teasing our best look yet at a pair of cancelled LEGO Star Wars buildable figures (a Super Battle Droid and a Clone Trooper riding an AT-RT), along with the aforementioned Zam Wesell design. (That minifigure last showed up in 2002.)

The book and time capsule will arrive packaged in a sleek slipcase decorated with the Millennium Falcon, while the book cover itself features an Imperial Star Destroyer. There’s no word yet on whether The Force of Creativity will count towards May the 4th gifts-with-purchase when it goes live on May 1, but if it does, it will get you nearly all the way to all three of this year’s freebies.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

It’s available outside the US – look for 5008878 on your region’s online store.

Of course it doesn’t count for the GWP because it’s just a pre-order for end of July. Fingers crossed people will not buy this overpriced nonsense so that they would be forced to offer it as an eBook or 1/3 of the price instead, but we all know money is no issue for the SW fandom.
