LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is still coming soon, apparently

Spring is well and truly upon us, and we’ve heard next to nothing about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – but a new magazine promo insists it’s still ‘coming soon’.

Warner Bros.’ marketing strategy for its hugely-anticipated sequel has been pretty mysterious so far, which is to say that it hasn’t really had one. But the latest issue of Immediate Media’s LEGO Star Wars magazine includes a single-page promo for the video game, featuring six previously-revealed screenshots and a prominent box declaring that it does still exist, actually.

You’d be forgiven for assuming LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga had been quietly shelved by TT Games, because we’ve had practically no news to speak of since Warner Bros. announced – all the way back in August 2020 – that it had been pushed to spring 2021.

Meteorologically speaking, spring has been here for a few weeks in the northern hemisphere, while the vernal equinox is tomorrow. No matter which definition of the seasons you choose to live by, time is quickly running out for Warner Bros. to give us a release date on its first new title since 2019’s LEGO DC Super-Villains.

Here’s hoping next week’s Future Games Showcase delivers the goods, but for now, it’s reassuring to know – even if by way of a kids’ magazine spread – that the game is still coming soon. I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
