LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga loses out to God of War and Horizon at game awards
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has lost out to God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Call of the Mountain at the Develop:Star Awards.
Hosted at the annual Develop:Brighton conference – which brings together game developers from around the world – the Develop:Star Awards celebrate exceptional achievement in video games. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was nominated for four different prizes at this year’s ceremony, including Best Game, Best Game Design, Best Audio and Best Technical Innovation.
The TT Games title faced stiff competition across all four of those categories, however, from the likes of Santa Monica Studios’ God of War Ragnarök, Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Call of the Mountain. And while those are esteemed prizes to receive nominations for, the team behind LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga ultimately didn’t walk away with any trophies.

PlayStation exclusive God of War Ragnarök won Best Game and Best Audio, while PSVR 2 title Horizon Call of the Mountain led the way for Best Technical Innovation. Best Game Design went to poncle’s Vampire Survivors, a rougelike shoot-‘em-up available exclusively on Xbox, PC, Android, Mac and iOS. (A Switch port is due to release in August.)
This isn’t the first time LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has lost out to Santa Monica’s mighty Norse sequel: God of War scooped the saga-spanning title to the Best Animation gong at the 2023 BAFTA Games Awards, for which TT Games’ much-delayed (but heavily-anticipated) project was also nominated.
Bowing in the same year as the critically-acclaimed Ragnarök was never going to be easy, though – and if The Skywalker Saga had hit its original 2021 release date, we could be having a very different conversation right now.
