The official Star Wars website recently interviewed Hans Burkhard Schlömer, the designer behind 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, and discussed the upcoming UCS set’s development, its complex construction and a personal Easter egg hidden within.

When it came to the scale of the colossal LEGO Star Wars build, Hans revealed that there was only one real way to present the large craft. “Most details of this new set would probably fit on a smaller model as well,” he said, “but when it comes to capital spaceships, I believe that size does matter!”

“Only a truly massive model will project the might and presence of a Star Destroyer,” Hans stated. “It also allows more intricate and detailed turbo lasers, turrets, and hull details.”

Given that 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser measures a whopping 109cm in length, it’s not surprising to discover that the huge set presented some unique construction challenges for the LEGO Star Wars design team.

“The tail end of the LEGO Republic Attack Cruiser is an unsupported overhang, clocking in at about 1 kilogram!” said Hans. “So it is not just about more details — building at this scale means dealing with model weight challenges, too.”

When it comes to sneaky secrets, the designer mentioned that a previously-revealed mini ship was deliberately included with 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser for a specific reason. “Adding a sub-micro scale Republic Gunship flying out of a side hangar bay is clearly a nod to my previous UCS set, 75309 (Republic Gunship). Consider this a not-too-well-hidden Easter egg!”

75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser will be releasing for LEGO Insiders from October 1 and for everyone else on October 4. The LEGO Star Wars UCS set will be priced at £559.99 / $649.99 / €649.99 and you can find out more about the huge build in our visual tour and gallery here.
