LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong changes more than Luigi’s Mansion

LEGO Super Mario’s upcoming Donkey Kong range changes more than the Luigi’s Mansion wave with further changes to the boxes and more.

LEGO Super Mario’s second spin-off collection introduces Donkey Kong and his family to the theme and follows the Luigi’s Mansion range in 2022. However, there are a few notable differences between them.

As revealed first by 71423 Dry Bowser Castle Battle, LEGO Super Mario boxes are changing, losing the white backgrounds in favour of backdrops.

While this could have been exclusive to the huge 71423 Dry Bowser Castle Battle, the Donkey Kong models also include themed backgrounds, suggesting that this is a wider amendment for LEGO Super Mario.

Looking at the LEGO Luigi’s Mansion sets, the boxes featured tints of green as the major identifying aspect of the builds when on the shelf. However, LEGO Donkey Kong changes that with a banana pattern and a render of the titular character in the corner – otherwise limited to starter courses.

Combined with the bright yellow colour scheme, it may make the LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong sets easier to differentiate from other models in the theme on the shelf.
