LEGO Super Mario Luigi’s Death Stare works a little too well
Recreating Luigi’s infamous Death Stare in brick form can be achieved with two LEGO Super Mario sets, even if the end result is a little creepy and pricey.
A second brick-built LEGO Super Mario vehicle will be racing into view next month in the shape of 72050 Luigi & Mach 8, accompanying last year’s impressive 72037 Mario & Standard Kart. What’s more, those video game fans hoping to recreate Luigi’s well-known Death Stare meme will soon be able to do just that, although you will need copies of both sets.
We previously mocked up a digital version of what that disturbing facial expression might look like, but Brickset has gone one step further with a physical version of the slightly tweaked 72050 Luigi & Mach 8.

In an early review of the upcoming LEGO Super Mario set, Luigi’s fearsome scowl has been recreated in brick form by swapping in the printed eye and mouth tiles from 72037 Mario & Standard Kart, turning the iconic plumber’s smile upside down to great (and frightening) effect.
Of course, achieving that desired look will require builders to obtain copies of both LEGO Super Mario sets, although spending that amount of cash just for a few laughs and potential fever dreams might not be worth it.

In addition, the review goes on to note that Luigi and Mario can be swapped in and out of each other’s respective karts, although the latter does require some deconstruction in order to fit the character behind the wheel of his brother’s vehicle.
72037 Mario & Standard Kart can be purchased right now for £149.99 / $169.99 / €169.99, while 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 is available to pre-order for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99, with the LEGO Super Mario model launching on April 1, 2026.
