Affordable 18+ LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant set rumoured

Following a Koopa, Spike, Bowser and more, the next massive LEGO Super Mario figure is rumoured to be a giant Piranha Plant.

As reported by 1414FalconFan via lego_minecraft_goat and also backed up by brick_clicker, 71426 Piranha Plant is said to be the next big LEGO Super Mario set, although its rumoured price point is nowhere near previous models. Said to be an 18+ set, it’s believed to consist of 540 pieces, retailing for $64.99 and releasing on November 6, 2023.

Piranha Plants are a common enemy throughout the Super Mario franchise, recognisable by their red heads with a tooth-filled maw. The render of the enemy from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate below offers a good idea of what we might be able to expect from a detailed recreation, but with a green pipe instead of a plant pot.

Piranha Plants have been in a few LEGO Super Mario sets too, but using far less pieces than the rumoured 540-brick model. The piece count isn’t quite consistent to the price in the reported creation, though that’s not always a good measure of value in LEGO sets. The 18+ range of LEGO Super Mario sets haven’t included any minifigures so far and for another brick-built figure, it seems unlikely that this will change. The rumoured price point of $64.99 is considerably lower than the other 18+ LEGO Super Mario models, of which the least expensive was £169.99.

It’s worth noting that every LEGO Super Mario model, including the giant builds, have functionality with the course-building system and this may continue with the rumoured 71426 Piranha Plant. It could follow 71411 The Mighty Bowser as a huge boss battle, but that has yet to be confirmed.

As always, this is only a rumour and the LEGO Group has yet to confirm what’s in store for the future of LEGO Super Mario beyond 71427 Larry’s and Morton’s Airships on August 1, 2023.
