LEGO Technic 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht revealed

Check out the first images of LEGO Technic 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht, a surprise 18+ set sailing on to shelves next month.

Revealed today by German retailer JB Spielwaren, 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht clocks in at 962 pieces and looks to stand surprisingly tall. Previously rumoured as simply a ‘water vehicle’, this set has come somewhat out of the blue, and represents something relatively new for LEGO Technic. The theme’s only previous racing yacht dropped in 2018 and included just 330 pieces.

You’re paying the price for the increased size and scale, though, as JB Spielwaren suggests the RRP for 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht will be €119.99 in Europe (so perhaps around £104.99 in the UK and $119.99 in the US). Part of the cost is presumably the real-world licensing, as the model is decorated top to bottom with logos and sponsors including Emirates, Toyota and Omega.

The retailer has only shared images and basic details of the set so far, so it’s tough to say exactly what functions and features it might include, but one of the photos highlights a crank in its display stand that can move part of the yacht. We’ll hopefully learn more about 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht when it pops up at LEGO.com.

Look out for that happening within the next day or two, as these early retailer reveals typically precede a full unveiling by the LEGO Group by a matter of hours. 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht joins a handful of other LEGO Technic sets launching on August 1, which you can check out in the table below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
